Terms of use

These terms are between you and the independent developer who makes Lightjar ("I", "me"). By installing or using Lightjar you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use the app.

The app

Lightjar shows one page a day, lets you mark it, and sends it back to you later as a notification. You need Android and, for pages to come back, notifications turned on. The free app is complete; nothing in it expires.

Not a medical service

Lightjar offers kind words. It is not a medical, psychological or mental-health service, and nothing in it is advice or treatment. If you are in crisis or thinking about harming yourself, please contact your local emergency number or a crisis line near you.

Lightjar+

Lightjar+ lets every page you touch keep travelling and lets you write letters to your future self. It is offered as:

• an annual subscription with a 7-day free trial;
• a monthly subscription;
• a one-time purchase that does not renew.

Prices are shown in the app and in Google Play before you buy, in your local currency, and may include tax.

• Billing. Payment is taken by Google Play from the account you use there. I never see your payment details.
• Automatic renewal. Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each period at the then-current price, unless you cancel before the renewal date.
• Free trial. If you start the annual plan's free trial, you won't be charged during the trial. Unless you cancel before it ends, it becomes a paid annual subscription on the day it ends. Lightjar sends a reminder two days before, if notifications are on. One trial per Google account.
• Cancelling. Open Google Play → your profile → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → Lightjar → Cancel. Uninstalling the app does not cancel a subscription. After you cancel, Lightjar+ stays on until the end of the period you've paid for.
• Refunds. Refunds are handled by Google Play under its refund policy. If something went wrong, write to me as well and I'll help where I can.
• Changes to prices. If a subscription price changes, Google Play tells you in advance and, where required, asks for your agreement.
• Restoring. Lightjar+ is tied to your Google Play account; reinstalling on a phone signed in to the same account restores it.

What you write

Your marks, doodles and letters are yours. They are stored only on your phone and are not backed up by Lightjar, so if you lose or reset your phone, or uninstall the app, they can't be recovered. See the privacy policy for the little data that does leave your phone.

What's mine

The app, its lines, drawings, creature and design belong to me (the fonts are used under the SIL Open Font License). You're welcome to share pages from the app for personal, non-commercial use. Please don't copy, resell, or reverse engineer the app, or use it to break the law.

Changes and availability

I may change, add or remove features, or stop offering the app. If I stop offering Lightjar+ while you have an active subscription, it won't renew. I'll try to give notice of big changes in the app or on this page.

No warranty

Lightjar is provided "as is". I do my best, but I can't promise it will always work, that a notification will always arrive, or that it will be free of bugs. To the extent the law allows, I'm not liable for indirect or consequential losses, and my total liability to you is limited to what you paid for Lightjar+ in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing here limits rights you have under consumer laws that can't be waived.

Changes to these terms

If these terms change, the new version will be posted here with a new date. Continuing to use Lightjar after that means you accept them.
